Our History
Our first experience within this industry began back in 1982 with the purchase of “The Rising Sun” with Kevin’s parents Roger and Pauline Stone. Over the years the pub developed and became a renowned haven for real ale drinkers, resulting in being awarded CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR 1995 With the retirement of Roger and Pauline in 1999 the pub continued to evolve with the addition of a conservatory and an evening menu .
January 2007 the” Great Western Brewing Company Ltd” was established
In April 2007 Kevin and Sandra purchased “The Old Bakery” in the village of Hambrook, on the outskirts of Bristol, The property, an historic old bake house dates back to the 1700’s Work commenced in June 2007 and the property has been transformed from a dilapidated state into a showpiece brewery with many of its original features restored,
The brewery has been built by ourselves with the help of Brian Rides (founder of Wickwar Brewery) from a selection of vessels acquired from various parts of the country. These were then modified to our specific requirements, resulting in a bespoke showpiece brewery to be proud of.
Brewing commenced on 1st march 2008 with the creation of our first two ales
Maiden Voyage 4.0%ABV
Classic Gold 4.6%ABV
These beers have been accepted well within the trade, with regular deliveries to many local outlets All of our ales are available at the Brewery Shop, located at the front of the brewery
